Vocabulary
Art Elements:
Line- can be described as a moving dot
Shape- pertains to the use of areas in two-dimensional space that can be defined by edges, setting one flat specific space apart from another.
Color- pertains to the use of hue in artwork and design.
Value- Value, or tone, refers to the use of light and dark, shade and highlight, in an artwork.
Texture- The texture is the quality of a surface, often corresponding to its tactile character, or what may be sensed by touch.
Volume/ Form- Form may be created by the forming of two or more shapes or as three-dimensional shapes (cube, pyramid, sphere, cylinder, etc.).
Design Principles:
Balance- Balance is a psychological sense of equilibrium
Harmony- Harmony in visual design means all parts of the visual image relate to and complement each other.
Contrast- Contrast occurs when two elements on a page are different.
Movement- Motion or movement in a visual image occurs when objects seem to be moving in a visual image.
Rhythm- Rhythm in design is also called repetition. Rhythm allows your designs to develop an internal consistency that makes it easier for your customers to understand.
